What is a mirror backup?

top previous next

A mirror backup is a backup type similar to a full backup but one where the backup is not stored in a compressed zip file.

Mirror backups are the fastest to create but have the least efficient storage space utilization.

Some advantages of mirror backups:

Restoring files is easy; simply browse the mirrored folder to get the desired file.

Backup creation is faster than that of full backups, differential backups and incremental backups.

Some disadvantages of mirror backups include:

Keeping multiple versions of a mirror backup tends to reduce storage space significantly.

Mirror backups lack the functionality of other backup types such as backup testing.
